The American public transportation industry faces a significant skills shortage among its workforce, especially those working on the frontline, driven by changing demographics, retirement of experienced workers, pervasive technological advances, increased demand for service, competition from other industries, and challenges created by the COVID pandemic.
To assist transit agencies, labor unions, and partner organizations with addressing these workforce development challenges and attract, recruit, train and retain the next generation transit workforce, the Transit Workforce Center has worked with its partners to implement a number of initiatives.
