Take the Survey on Streamlining Bus Operator Hiring Practices

The Transit Workforce Center (TWC) is pleased to announce a new research project it is undertaking in partnership with the Federal Transit Administration (FTA), called Streamlining Operator Hiring PracticesThe objective of this project is to document current transit agency hiring processes for bus operators and produce new resources to support agencies’ bus operator hiring efforts. Current hiring processes can be lengthy, causing candidates to abandon the process in favor of other jobs and exacerbating operator shortages. This research will map typical steps and timelines and identify promising practices that lead to shorter and more effective hiring processes.

How you can help:

TWC asks those involved with bus operator hiring at transit agencies to complete this short survey. This survey should be completed by transit agency staff who have thorough knowledge of their own agency’s bus operator hiring processes.

Participation in this survey is voluntary. Survey responses will be kept confidential; no individual will be identified in the resulting materials, and no agency will be identified without its express permission.

Your participation will help ensure that the project’s research is robust and reflects the realities faced by transit agencies.

The team requests that surveys be completed by December 18, 2025
